What is Strategic Internet Marketing?

Many internet marketers run web sites that aren't making them any money because they don't have any short or long-term strategies. Many people don't have goals or direction. Others want to succeed, but jump from one opportunity to the next like a bee buzzing from flower to flower without seeing anything through to completion.

There are those who treat their internet business like a hobby, yet they expect large checks from their dabbling.

To have success in internet marketing, you need to use strategic internet marketing techniques. Depending on your internet marketing interests, you need to have a business with long-term potential. That means you need to have long-term strategic goals for your business.

Strategic internet marketing doesn't mean buying a list of 250,000 overused email leads. Strategic marketing isn't about plastering the internet with banner ads either. A strategy that depends entirely on free classified ads isn't a strategy at all. These methods I have mentioned may work as part of a complete marketing campaign, but they can't be considered strategic internet marketing all by themselves.

So what is strategic internet marketing?

Strategic internet marketing is essentially having a plan to promote your business using tried and true internet marketing methods that get high converting results for your business.

You have a list of effective internet marketing tools. You must then perfect your skills using these tools in order for them to be effective. Narrow down the list to a few tool you know you can master. Once those are working for you, then you can add more.

The first thing you need to do is establish a budget. How much can you (and are willing to) spend each day/week/month? Remember to think long-term, not flash-in-the-pan advertising. Too many marketers think they can get more impact blowing all their money at once to "get the word out." However, seasoned marketers like Ken Evoy know that "slow and steady wins the race."

Every campaign you create must have a purpose. Have a goal that you are trying to achieve. Next, track the results. Measure everything. Once you are tracking every campaign you do, it will be easy to see which ones are working and which ones aren't.

After you identify the ads that are making the most money, you can put more money towards those. You can also find the ads that aren't working and stop putting money into them.

The important thing here about strategic internet marketing is to constantly improve your marketing strategies by making them more effective.

So, which internet marketing strategies actually work? We talk about many different strategies, methods and tools on this site, but a few that most internet marketers agree work well if you use them consistently are:

1) Writing and submitting articles

Writing and submitting articles is an easy and inexpensive way to drive traffic to your web site. Writing articles builds your credibility and makes you the expert in the eyes of your reader. It can also drive a lot of traffic to your website - for free.

2) Pay per click advertising (PPC)

PPC is the fastest way to get traffic to your site, but it does cost money. The good news is that you can set your own budget and how much you are willing to pay per click. the more niche and obscure your market, the better. that means that your bids will cost less because everyone and their dog isn't bidding for them. you need to brush up on your keyword selection skills to make this an effective tool.

3) Start your own e-zine or newsletter

This is absolutely one of the most effective tools on the internet. Even if you don't use the rest of these ides, you must have a newsletter. It builds your opt-in list. The people on your opt-in list have given you permission to market to them. what else could you ask for? this is a powerful way to expand your business.

4) Viral marketing

This is another effective marketing strategy for your business. You can give information (e-book, newsletter, e-course, etc.) away with links to your web site inside of it. give your readers the rights to share the information, even sell it. the links inside the information will direct people back to your website. In the long run, this is a great internet marketing strategy.

5) Linking

It used to be that there were marketers who's entire internet marketing strategy would depend on creating links back towards the web site. their links would end up in the strangest places; adult directories, children's clothing directories, gardening directories, you name it. A balanced linking program is the best way to go. It takes time to develop this tool so that it is effective, but it can be done. Links from major players in your industry are important as well as any links from .edu domains.

This is where your article writing and viral marketing come in handy too. You place links to your website on that information and once it is posted on someone's web site, it creates a link back to you.

6) Search engine optimization

This is another long term marketing tactic for your internet marketing business. Your pages must be fully keyword optimized in order for the search engines to find them and rank them highly. The most inexpensive and targeted traffic you will receive comes from high search engine rankings.
